Tin Can Lantern

Celebrate winter solstice with a lantern that looks lovely and is re-purposing. Take it outside and then bring inside to watch the lights move on the walls.

Materials

  • Tin can
  • Marker
  • Nail
  • Hammer
  • Twine
  • Candle

Method

  1. Choose your design and mark where the holes will go on your can with a marker.
  2. Hold a nail on each hole and hammer through. Remove the nail each time until you have finished all of the holes in your design.
  3. Hammer a hole either side of the top of the can and tie some twine to the holes to create your handle.
  4. Put a lit candle inside to see the glow shine through like twinkling stars.

If you're learning about constellations, this can be a great one to mark the constellations through and watch glow with the candle light.
